Christmas is upon us, and beautiful lights and decorations are everywhere. Since the early 90’s everything has gone PC. No, I don’t mean personal computer. I mean politically correct. The majority no longer seems to rule unless there is a vote, and no one voted on being politically correct. I’m not even sure where that all started. So why is the minority largely in charge where that’s concerned? All the names we have known things by our entire lives have changed. This includes minority groups of people, and it includes all the holidays. When I was in school we saluted the flag, and it was ok to say “One Nation Under God”. That little break we got out of school in spring was mostly called Easter break, and the one in December was definitely called Christmas vacation. What are we supposed to call it now, a holiday holiday? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Let’s face it people, whether you want to believe it or not Christians are the majority. Whether you are Black, White, Indian, Hispanic, Asian or anyone else I may have left out, look around you and you’ll see that we who believe in Christ are the majority. So why are we having to put aside our beliefs so we don’t offend anyone?
Until I had my second child and decided to become a stay at home mom I always worked in a job that had me front and center in the public. It was always a retail job of some sort. There was never a Christmas or Easter when I wasn’t employed and in a position to say Happy Easter, or Merry Christmas to my customers. I remember when all this PC stuff started. I began to question if it was ok or not to say Merry Christmas. Gosh knows I didn’t want to offend anyone. There were several times when I even hesitated to say anything at all other then have a nice day. Maybe I should have been told by my boss that I wasn’t allowed to say Merry Christmas and Happy Easter, and then I would have known for sure I was going to say those things. I believe in Christ, and I believe in celebrating Christmas and Easter for what they were intended. It’s not a Spring Egg Hunt, it’s an Easter Egg Hunt. It’s not a Winter Holiday, it’s Christmas. These are holidays that were started by Christians to remember Christ, and celebrate him. Why should we change what they are about just so we don’t offend non believers. I believe in Christ, and I am offended that I am supposed to pretend that Christmas is not about him.
If you celebrate Kwanzaa, yay for you! I respect that’s what you believe in, and I’m not going to try to belittle you or take that away from you. If you believe in Chanukah, good for you. I’m not going to try to take away your beliefs either. If you don’t believe in anything at all, and just enjoy those days around Christmas when you most likely get paid time off work then yay for you too! Remember those days off when you put down Christians for our beliefs. And if you happen to drive by that nativity scene that’s set up in downtown Watertown, New York, and you don’t like it, don’t look at it.
In the mean time everyone enjoy your CHRISTMAS holiday, and all the beautiful decorations, and the presents you’ll probably get whether you believe in Christ or not.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
