Are We Approaching Another Jonestown?

  • Feeling: concern
  • Background noise: a truck outside
  • Weather: 41 mph wind gusts, and 51 degrees!!!!

Stupid Girl has written a new post. She is against commercials that use gay people representing the gay lifestyle. Apparently several companies are making commercials geared toward homosexuals. I have no problem with this. If I were to see the commercial I could change the channel. If I see an ad, I can turn the page. Why does she feel that she has to offend every possible group of people in the world unless they are Christian and live by her rules? I truly am not a troll, but I sometimes feel the need to speak out about injustices that I see. In my life I have had gay friends, and I had no problem with them. I never even minded hearing about dates they had as long as sexual details were not given to me. It does not gross me out to see a happy couple together whether they are the same sex or different. However, keep the sex private. Gay, straight or indifferent, I don’t want to see it. Holding hands is one thing, sucking face is a complete other!

It seems that Stupid Girl (now make sure you click that link "Narcissistic Personality Disorder") is boycotting several products of companies that produce gay ads. Proctor (is there a pun in that?) & Gamble, Toyota, Bud Light beer, Johnson & Johnson, and Kodak, just to name a few. I’m here to tell you that it’s hard to avoid most of these products. P&G is everywhere in my house, not to mention I used to be paid by them for surveys. My husband drives a Toyota. When I’m not pregnant I drink Bud Light beer. Once the baby is born I will be using Johnson & Johnson products because I can’t stand the smell of Baby Magic. And I’m quite sure that on the rare occasion I actually have real film developed, it will most likely be on Kodak paper.

The more I learn about stupid girl's "family" the more I smell a recurrence of the Jonestown tragedy. Kool-aid anyone?

On a different note, we have had some heavy wind here today. This morning I got soaked from the blowing rain just putting out the trash can. Then when I went back out later to get my empty trash can and put it back in the garage, it was no where to be found. I even drove around the neighborhood looking for it. It’s just gone! LOL There is trash everywhere here though. It looks terrible. I suppose we will all be on trash patrol tomorrow once it has stopped raining, and the wind has died down.

38 I've been dazzled!.

I'm just wondering if she is going to bother boycotting other ads that dont apply to her, or which are against her morals.....such as other religions, ethnicities, or even people living together out of marriage? I didnt look at all the ads, but did look at the ones she had asterixed....I didnt really see the big deal at all with them, and some of them were funny!!! :) Good post Kathy

Amy is a typical "Christian", full of hatred for just about everyone, and intolerant as hell. Her husband is a real asshole too! I'll be sure to use ALL the products she says we should avoid because gay people support them. She is such a loser!

Great post Kathy! She kills me with all the hate she spouts. Last year her thing was about Hooters, uuuugggh. I posted an entry at that time titled "Bible Thumpers and Bertha Better than You...eeerrrrrrrrrr" http://tammywelch.bravejournal.com/entry/4324, she never came back to my little ol' soapbox. Oh well no loss there. Anyhoo, keep up the great job you are doing! Take care & feel free to drop by my little ol' soapbox anytime!

Hmmm... well, I do have to say, and I hope I don't get banned Kathy, but I agree with Amy.

I am a Christian and I don't hate anyone. I am not a "bible-thumper" but I do stand behind the teachings of the Holy Bible and it clearly states in many passages about the "sin" of homosexuality. God doesn't hate the homosexuals, he hates the "sin." Saying that, he hates all sin, which, I am afraid we all do on a daily basis. I am the first one to admit that.

Okay, I said my peace;) Can I come back?:)

I am all for Amy boycotting companies with which she disagrees. I do the same thing myself. That is how you get results in this market-driven capitalist country.

I disagree with her reason...but that's not surprising, is it?

Leticia (and Amy) if you "stand behind the teachings of the Holy Bible" you should boycott a lot more companies which violate biblical teaching.

We'll start with Wal-Mart. They are certainly guilty of Avarice (or greed) one of the Seven Deadly Sins of Amy's Roman CAtholic Church. Wal-Mart's owners are among the wealthiest Billionaires in the world yet they won't provide their workers with living wages or adequate health insurance.

McDonald's is synonymous with Gluttony. They market their high fat, high calorie, non-nutricious to little kids.

And what about all of the companies that use Lust to sell their products? The Coors Light twins, Bud Girls, even Snuggle is using sex to sell fabric softener.

The Bush Administration thrives on Wrath and Pride.

What did I miss? Envy? Look at any car ad. And Sloth? There are plenty are companies the sell things that promote laziness and time wasting.

So,anyhow, I'm with you Amy. Maybe we'll see you at the next Whirl-Mart.

Rob,

I do not have to boycott anything, I choose to I will, there is a big difference. We were all blessed with free-will, how we use it is another story.

Amy was only bringing these ads up for us to be aware. I see nothing wrong in that.

I will not debate with you about the Bush administration, I am a strong supporter, and I always will be.

This is not my web blog and I will not do that to Kathy.

Sorry, sweetie. I am done.

I disagree with any kind of lude sexual display to sell things. Heterosexual or homosexual. God aside, it is just uncalled for and, especially, if children accidently are exposed to it. Parents don't exactly have prior warning of the content of a commercial about to be aired, unfortunately.

ALL of the companies who market products have done something that God would not approve of, Rob is right about that. Truly? Unless it is something so vile and vicious that it cannot be ignored, I do not boycott anything. Only a select few things do I boycott. I think that the ads that Amy has on her journal are in poor taste and I would shame the companies for using that to sell their product. But, equally, I would feel the same if it were heterosexual ludeness. There just isn't a place for that, in my opinion, when children may be exposed. As for homosexuality? I am a Christian and I do not believe that the act of homosexuality is condoned by God. However, I do not believe that God hates the person participating anymore than He hates me for any of the numerous sins I commit each day. I am not hateful and mean to homosexuals. Why? Because why would anyone want to be like someone who is being mean to them? And, being a Christian, I represent our beliefs. Anyway, that's my two cents.

Leticia, after I wrote this post I thought of you. I thought of emails you have sent me about things that you obviously feel strongly against. I was pretty sure you would disagree with me, and I'm glad you feel strong enough to tell me that you do. I will never ban you from my journal. For that matter I will probably never ban anyone. That's just not the kind of person I am. If someone were to come here and blatantly be rude to me that would be a different story. While it is a free country, and even a free internet for the most part, this is my journal, so of course there are things I don't want here. Once again Leticia, you are always, always welcome. We just have to both realize that we won't agree on everything. :)

If these ads were being shown in places where my children could see them it would definately bother me. Young children do not need to learn about sex and sexuality, other then to see normal "daytime" appropriate affection between their parents. I think we all know what I mean by that. I have yet to see any of these commercials or ads. It wouldn't surprise me if Amy had to search the internet to find them, or was told about them in some christian website she reads. It is my opinion, and if anyone knows different feel free to tell me, that these commercials are not being shown in the US. If they are, then are certainly not on Disney, Nickelodian, PBS, TLC, or any of the channels my children are allowed to watch that I may have forgotten to mention. They are not allowed to watch Cartoon Network. They also do not read/look through any adult type magazines, and I don't mean porn, cause we don't even buy that.

If, however, these ads are being shown during the day where children can stumble across them, then it's wrong. I even have a problem with certain daytime programing. I enjoy shows on TNT and sometimes I forget to change the channel. NYPD Blue, very inappropriate for children, used to come on at 2pm, and may still, but now also is on at 9am. Hello! This is the wrong time of day for a show like that when children can be around while it's on. Luckily my children are in school during those times, but not all children are.

Amy Proctor watches her taped episodes of Young and the Restless with her children. To me, soaps are not appropriate for children. TV programing in general could be a whole post in itself. The point I'm getting at is that as parents we have to be responsible for what our children see. We should not watch soaps when they are around, or a lot of other daytime and night time programs. That said, if these commercials are being played during times when children could possibly see them, then they should be taken off the air. However, I will not stop

However, I will not stop buying my favorite products because they have poor taste in advertising. Instead I would write them an email and let them know how I feel. As should anyone else who agrees.

That is a good idea, Kathy. Emailing and letter writing are good alternatives! Kathy, I have to say that I have never, ever seen any of those commercials or ads anywhere. So, I truly don't care. They don't affect me and I have too many other things to worry about besides boycotting products from companies for commercials that never air on any channel I watch (or magazine I read). Good post, btw!

Leticia, you are right, you don't have to boycott anything. You may have noticed that I used words like "if" and "should" and I did not say "must".

Kathy, I wonder if any of the offending advertisers sponsor The Young and the Restless. If so, maybe Mrs. Proctor will stop watching her show in support of the boycott.

I doubt it Rob, if it seves Amy in some way, it is A_OK....It only applies to the rest of us.

Amy, if you're reading this, and I know you are, do your research to find out if the dumb soap you watch is sponsored by gay freindly advertisers, and if it is, I challenge you to stop watching the show. LOL......PS, why do you let your young kids watch such shit on TV? I wouldn't allow young children to watch such garbage.

I wonder if Mrs Proctor has seen the Sony Playstaion Ad featuring Jesus. They could have at least found a more "manly" Jesus (if ya know what I mean). Sorry little Proctors, the Play Station must go.

I'm beginning to think there's something cult-y about Mr. Proctor. Do any of you know them in real life? It's one thing calling someone "satan's apostle" over the internet, quite another to do so in person...

Jez, I'm surprised to see you posting here. You post at Amy's so much even though you usually disagree with both of them.

I don't know for sure if anyone of us online have met Amy and Johnny in person. I had the opportunity to meet them in April while we were moving, and I didn't do it. I was honestly afraid I would be judged or preached at, so I didn't call to arrange the meeting. I've never been easy with "knowing" the Proctors. You could ask Alice and she would tell you the same thing. I engaged with them because at the time Alice was friends with them, and I have always valued Alice's friendship. She and I *have* met in person, and visited on several occassions. Since all the mess that happened between Donna and Amy, Alice has come to realize why I distanced myself from the Proctors.

As for either of the Proctors being cult-y, I wouldn't have written this post the way I did if I didn't feel that way. I wasn't being sarcastic. They have so many blind followers, although I can't see why, that I believe they could really cause problems if they had the funds to start something up.

well, it's just that today i had an image of how intimidating he might be in person, obviously I hope it's a false impression. Then I saw your post about cultishness and it struck a chord.

Jez, Donna has met Amy in real life and corresponded with her for ten years. I have spoken to Amy on the phone a couple of times and, ehem...had some instant messenger chats, lol. I talk to Donna on the phone almost every night and also via IM. I have actually had visits with Kathy's whole family and they are great people! Honest, hard-working, fair, & down-to-earth. Donna is a gem, as well, and would give you the shirt off her back. A real good friend.
