Procrastinating

  • Feeling: Lazy
  • Background noise: "The people on the bus go up and down, up and down..."
  • Weather: 58 degrees! Fall is definately here!

The kids were watching PBS this morning while they got ready for school. Compared to what I am currently listening to, they better shows were on before they left. They watched Arthur, Clifford, and then Dragon Tales. After the bus left I pilfered through the garage for a bit and brought some things in the house so that when we pack they will be in the proper place. Once I came in Mister Roger’s Neighborhood was on TV. I didn’t change it cause I was on here journal hopping. Now Barney is on, and I have yet to get up and change the channel. Why do I torture myself this way? LOL I’m hearing “Look both ways when you cross the street, hold a grown ups hand real tight…” I must be punishing myself for some reason.

Maybe the punishment is because I really should be starting on Matthew’s birthday cake right now for his party tomorrow. He is going to be 5 on Sunday, and I feel like he has almost always gotten a raw deal for his birthday. Last year we did do a big party and invited every kid in the neighborhood. We rented a moon walk, and I made one really big cake, that certainly could have been bigger. He had a great day. However, his first birthday was just the family, second birthday we went to the lake, but it was still just family. Although, it was the extended family up from Pensacola. For his third birthday Dale had just come home for his mid tour leave from Korea, so we just had a small family party as well. Matthew didn’t complain, he got a Power Wheels jeep that year! Most years Matthew hasn’t known any little boys to invite to a party. We have always lived near girls, and they were Caitlin’s friends, not really his. This year he’s in school, and would love to invite some kids from class. I feel bad for not letting him do it, but we have so much going on that I don’t have time or the money to plan a big party. (still hearing Barney “The more we work together the happier we’ll be…”) As if that weren’t bad enough, I realized yesterday at 1:40pm that not only had I not gotten the cake pan, I had also not asked Matthew what kind of birthday he wanted, AND had not bought him the first present! Such a bad mom I am! You’d think that since I have my days all to myself now I would have thought of all this sooner.

This poor boy is going to grow up thinking he was less loved. He has no baby book, well we have one, but there is not even the first dot of ink in it. We don’t have a ton of baby pictures of him like we do with Caitlin, and he has had few birthday parties with friends, where as Caitlin has had one every single year. It’s sad really, but we love him just as much as Caitlin. I guess we just show it in different ways. He is so loving, and huggy, and I hope that never changes.

So now I guess I need to get off my butt and search my kitchen for shortening for the icing. I don’t think I have any, so that means a quick shower and quick trip to the store. Unfortunately the nearest store is very expensive, but I’ll deal with it. I long for the days of working in a bakery where the cakes are shipped in frozen and precooked, and the white icing comes in huge 25 gallon buckets. Wow, where can I get some of that?!
7 I've been dazzled!.

I have done that Kathy, I have been too lazy to change the channel. My boys love Dragon Tales and Caillou. Caillou has been a favorite for a long time. Good thing neither of them liked barney.

My CD of Phantom of the Opera (1st CD) finished and now children bible songs are playing, but do I get up? Ah-ah-no.

25 gallon buckets of icing! OH, yummy.

I am assuming Caitlin was your first-born? If so, I think all parents get carried away with their first child on taking pictures and such. He knows he is loved.

I agree with you the way you view the issue. I remember Jack London once said everything positive has a negative side; everything negative has positive side. It is also interesting to see different viewpoints & learn useful things in the discussion.
