In June, when Matthew registered for school, he planted a pumpkin seed with his teacher. The teacher told him that when it was time to go to school the pumpkins would start growing. Well, we haven’t had much luck with this plant. It was growing tons of tiny pumpkins, but before they made it to 2 inches they would dry up and fall off. Yesterday my husband noticed that there was a good size pumpkin growing a little high up on a vine. I am so excited. I just counted and there are 5 pumpkins (and still a ton of little ones). They are all still green, but none have made it this big yet. They are 3-5 inches around. After doing a little reading I found out that pumpkins are one of the easiest things to grow, and that we probably weren’t giving the plant enough water. Look at this picture. It all started from just one seed! Look at those gorgeous orange flowers! They will be gone by mid day, but are very nice first thing in the morning.
Here you can see the first pumpkin we spotted last night. I hope these grow well. I will plant one every year now if they do. I love to decorate for the fall with hay bails, and pumpkins, and scarecrows, and Mums. This year, I may not have to buy my pumpkins. This is too cool. Who knew one person could get so excited about a pumpkin plant? hahaha

The mildew on the leaves is no big deal. It’s because of the air conditioner from the apartment above ours, constantly dripping on it. Here is a website full of info if you are considering your own pumpkin plant next year. I know I’ll be planting another one! http://www.sadako.com/pumpkin/growing.html
Me either Donna. That's why pumpkin plants are so awesome. Water them, and they grow themselves! The mums I plan to buy for fall decorating will die before Fall is over. LOL
Just in time for Hallowe'en, time to start planning your Jack-O-lantern, by the way, what are you dressing up as?
They are just beautiful!! I hope you will get many pumpkins out of it.:)
Yay! You have punkins! You go girl! Great job!
